In May 2021, after seven years of part-time forex trading, I decided to quit my banking job and become a full-time trader. How did I do it? My Background and Early Trading Experiences
My desire to achieve financial independence started while I was still in university. I tried various online money-making methods, but none proved to be sustainable. After graduating and landing a banking job, my passion for making money online was reignited when a friend introduced me to forex trading.
Despite studying candlestick patterns and various indicators, I blew up my account after three months of trading. This setback didn’t deter me; I was determined to succeed. I sought out a mentor who taught me about price action and trading based on chart patterns rather than fundamental news.
Investing in My Trading Education
After learning from my mentor’s free content for three years, I decided to invest in his trading course. Although the course content wasn’t much different from his free material, it provided a clearer perspective on trading strategies and risk management.
By implementing what I learned, focusing on forex trading, and trading one currency pair at a time, I gradually became profitable. However, I realized that I needed to reduce my risk per trade to maintain consistent profits and avoid significant drawdowns.
Attracting Investors and Developing a Profitable Track Record
As I developed a profitable track record, I attracted individual investors and received funding from a company called Access Select. In total, I managed around $96,000 for both individual investors and the company, just by demonstrating consistent profitability.
Taking the Leap to Full-Time Trading
Feeling stressed and unfulfilled in my banking job, I decided to reassess my financial situation. I realized that with my savings and pension, I could earn enough interest income to cover my monthly expenses, allowing me to quit my job and trade full-time.
Adapting to Market Changes and Expanding My Trading Strategies
After quitting my job, I faced challenges when forex trading opportunities dwindled. To diversify my trading, I learned to trade stocks, cryptocurrencies, and commodities through extensive backtesting. This experience allowed me to develop unique trading strategies for different markets, ensuring more consistent returns regardless of forex market conditions.
